Obamacare Stories - McKinley for Congress

Obamacare is hurting West Virginia families and must be stopped. The promises were great: keep your doctor, keep your plan, premiums will go down, uninsured will be covered -- ALL promises that were broken. We  need common sense alternatives to Obamacare that put patients and doctors back in charge, not the government.

Please take a moment to share your story, how has Obamacare impacted you and your family?

Affordable Care Act or Obamacare (as Reps call it) has saved my life. I have a very low income $300 per month and no health insurance. I was unable to get continued care for my multiple diseases, Major Depressive Disorder, Cancer, CAD, and Diabetes. All of these diseases are life threatening. I have had a suicide attempt which could have taken my life. I have Medicaid because of the ACA. I am able to get continued care for my MDD, medications to manage all of my diseases. I now have HOPE and peace of mind knowning that I have healthcare for the future. And it now a better future because of ACA. Please preserve this healthcare for the most vulerable among us.

At their request I have always covered my employees with top of the line health insurance, but with substantial increases in annual premiums I’ve had to ask them to share the expense rather than dilute their coverage. Now I’m told that not only will they not be allowed to keep their current coverage, not only with they pay MORE for fewer services, they will also have a higher deductible and higher copays. I guess now that we’ve passed the bill we know SOME of what’s in it. My fear for the future is that their ability to receive certain types of care will be decided by a review board and not by the physician who knows my employee and not only their particular medical but also social and personal issues.

Under no circumstances can I afford insurance under Obamacare. Quite honestly should I happen to contract a life threatening illness, it would be cheaper for me to die. I cannot afford the insurance my employer offers and still be able to buy groceries and pay bills. As it stands now, I refuse to participate in this scam, and hope others will do the same in hopes that it collapses under its own weight. Obamacare is an illegal tax and I will not participate.

I am a Vietnam era Marine Corp Vet and rely on the VA…of which I have little complaint over the past twenty years or so. Late 70’s thru the 80’s wasn’t good, but…

However, I do have family and friends that have seen both premiums and deductibles rise. The deductible tripling and premiums at least doubling seems to be a standard with variations. Lies, all lies…and it’s criminal to say the least. People are struggling…

It is very simple , I was getting my care thru the VA Hospital here Clarksburg WV. But since I did not go to them every time I had cold or sniffles to keep getting my meds there , they dropped me from their role there. Thus forcing me to get medical on and treatment out on the out side. Mind you I only have my social security to live on and what I have now does not do much good if I have an illness I have to be hospitalized and medicare doe not do that much ,because I still have to try and pay the rest of the bill. It gets harder and harder to pay for meds and live ass well. Yes I know that I am not alone on this battle, do eat or pay for meds? So what do you do when you have to live this way? Believe me it is not an easy task, but I manage most of time, which keeps coming back to the same question, why have we not impeached Obama, for all his lies and taking our country down road of doom for the next two years and more other countries will own more of this country than we do.Time for a change needs to come from some where?

God has a way of humbling us all and I am no exception. I am an RN who used to softly “scold” my patients who were repeatedly admitted to the hospital. They said they skipped some days of their medicines to make them go farther. I was telling them they cannot miss their daily doses of medicine.
Well, I am 64 and disabled and I am now doing the same thing. I realize this is a form of Russian roulette, but I can’t always afford my medicines. I told my doctor I wanted to do away with some of them and he said, “Sure, which ones will that be?” I have RA, Barrett’s Esophagus, hypothyroidism, depression, asthma, hypocholesterolemia, and hypertension. All the meds I take are necessary so discontinuing anything is out of the question. I had a knee replacement a year ago so that required a hospital stay and numerous x-rays. Medicine for the RA requires blood work every two months. The Barrett’s Esophagus (pre-cursor to esophageal cancer which is common in my family) requires an EGD yearly. That co-pay is $250 so it has been two years since I have had one. I was at the financial advisor’s office at a local hospital today. I have a running bill that stays at $1,000 and accrues new charges at least every two months.

I have been blessed with reasonably good health for most of my life. I know I am much better off than many, but I realize that healthcare is continuing to rise and fear that the day will come that I will have even more hardships.
Too high and too many deductables. I don’t feel any relief coming very soon. Especially from a president who does not keep his word.
If all these healthcare laws and rules are so wonderful, why don’t they have to apply to the people who pass them? “Sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander.” I am not saying they don’t deserve affordable and economical healthcare, but so do the rest of us!
Sincerely, Mary Ann Nolte

Hi David,

My story is simple:

As a result of ObamaCare mandates and measures, my cost of premiums to ensure I could “keep” my plan for my family of four skyrocketed to nearly $800 per month this year! To boot, my deductible jumped up to $2500! Therefore my out of pocket cost over 12 months (just meeting the deductible) is over $12,000. These massive cost increases were applied by my company and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in an unmasked effort to hopefully dump all of its employees or at least most into the predecessor to the single-payer system. The only problem is, most employees like myself have spouses who have even less affordable insurance at their places of employment, if they are even employed at all!

David, the answer to these problems that have been created by Obamacare is simple: we repeal and replace! We need portability, tort reform, and less government intervention in health care!

I have a very simple concept for healthcare reform but I’ll save that for another time and another day. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my story!

And, most importantly, thank you for your service to this great nation!

Since we are on Humana Medicare, it doesn’t impact us personally, but our daughter couldn’t afford it and because of a recent ER trip, she has been reduced to Medicaid!

I agree with Mr. Edwards, GOP must brace up and prevent this president from doing more damage to this country. Our son, 22 years in the military, 20 in Special Forces, just retired. He has two sons to raise, he said.

My story is not of any importance … what is important to me is that there are many of you in our government who now realize that our “president” is and had lied to us since the day he took office. What have you in congress done about it? Little or nothing that I am able to put my finger on. If you folks know Mr. Obama doesn’t seem to know the truth from fiction, get him out of the office. Our country simply can’t take much more before it is going the way of other civilizations who are no longer to be found. Help us … don’t sit by and wait until we no longer have a chance of recovery.
